Jinghui Guangxuan Symphony Orchestra: World’s Largest all-Monk Chan Music Troupe

Orchestra Introduction: The Jinghui Guangxuan Symphony Orchestra, named after Buddhist masters Jinghui and Guangxuan, is the world’s only orchestra composed of Zen monks. This unique ensemble combines musical performance with Zen meditation, integrating daily life with spiritual cultivation through music. The orchestra is dedicated to promoting values of sincerity, kindness, and beauty, and fostering world peace. Under the guidance of Master Shi Wule, the members merge traditional Eastern culture with professional musical techniques, viewing each performance as both a Zen practice and a Buddhist prayer ceremony.

Program Introduction: This concert will offer the audience a spiritual journey that blends music, dance, and Zen meditation. The concert is divided into two parts. The first part features classic pieces from both Eastern and Western traditions, such as Lv Qiming’s Overture to Ode to the Red Flag, Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite, and Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont, expressing the themes of peace and boundless love through the deep lens of Zen practice. The second part engages the audience with dance and vocal meditation, incorporating traditional Buddhist rituals such as The Buddhist Mudras and The Itinerant Ch’an Monks, along with choral renditions of Eliza Gilkyson’s Requiem and Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus. The entire concert will unfold in an atmosphere of serenity and solemnity, with each note and movement being a natural expression of the Zen masters’ inner world. Audiences will not only experience the beauty of the arts but also achieve spiritual purification and profound tranquility through this Zen-infused concert.

Concert Duration: Approximately 100 minutes.
